UGC NET photo upload rules for December 2026 allow a photo of 10 KB to 200 KB. The signature file must be 10 KB to 50 KB. The form at ugcnet.nta.nic.in closes on October 28, 2026 at 11:50 p.m. IST.
The National Testing Agency set these limits in its Information Bulletin for UGC-NET December 2026. That bulletin is dated October 8, 2026. NTA runs India’s national entrance exams.
A wrong image cannot be fixed later. The bulletin says change requests on uploaded scanned images will not be considered under any circumstances.
Changes to form details are allowed from November 2 to November 4. Images are not on that list.
What are the UGC NET photo upload size limits?
The UGC NET photo upload rule accepts a photo between 10 KB and 200 KB. Colour or black and white is fine.
Your photo must show 80% of the face, including the ears. White background is a must. No mask.
| File | Size limit | File type named in the bulletin |
|---|---|---|
| Recent photo | 10 KB to 200 KB | None stated |
| Signature | 10 KB to 50 KB | None stated |
| Disability certificate | 50 KB to 300 KB |
One detail is missing from the bulletin. It names PDF for the disability certificate. For the photo it names no file type at all.
That photo comes back on exam day. The bulletin asks every candidate to carry one passport size photo, the same one used on the form.
Photo 200 KB se bada hai, to kya karein?
Compress the file before you upload it. A free image tool brings a large phone photo under 200 KB. Keep the face sharp while you do it.
How do you upload the photo on ugcnet.nta.nic.in?
The bulletin sets three steps, and the photo sits in the second one.
Turn Your Achievements Into Stories That Students Actually Read
Feature admissions, placements, rankings, events, research initiatives, achievements, and institutional milestones before a highly engaged education-focused audience.
- Sign up with your own email ID and mobile number.
- Fill the form. Upload the live photo, the recent photo, the signature, and a disability certificate where it applies.
- Pay the fee through SBI, Canara Bank, UBI, debit card, credit card or UPI.
The confirmation page appears only after the payment goes through. An application stays incomplete if Step 2 or Step 3 is left undone.
Can a wrong UGC NET photo be corrected?
No. An uploaded photo cannot be changed. The bulletin rules out such requests with no exceptions.
An incomplete form earns no admit card. The bulletin names indistinct or doubtful photographs as one reason. Unsigned forms are another.
Using someone else’s photo counts as unfair means. NTA also keeps the right to verify a candidate’s details and photos.
Found a mismatch on the admit card? Call the helpline rather than wait. The bulletin says such candidates still sit the exam with the downloaded admit card.
What does the live photo step need?
A live photo is captured while you fill the UGC NET form. Any webcam does the job.
No webcam on the device? Scan the QR code with a mobile phone instead. The bulletin asks for a light background and good lighting.
Laptop me webcam nahi hai, to live photo kaise hoga?
Scan the QR code shown on the form with your phone. The phone camera then takes the live photo. Light the face evenly before you tap.
When does the UGC NET December 2026 form close?
The form closes on October 28, 2026 at 11:50 p.m. IST. Fee payment closes at the same minute.
A late form opens from October 29 to October 31. That window costs Rs 500 more. Form details can be changed from November 2 to November 4.
Paper days are December 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 21. The first bulletin had listed December 14 to 19. A revised bulletin dated October 16 changed that.
The general category fee is Rs 1,150. Gen-EWS and OBC-NCL candidates pay Rs 600. SC, ST, PwD and third gender candidates pay Rs 325.
PwD means a person with a disability. The December 2026 session covers 87 subjects. Every paper runs as a computer based test, or CBT.
Registrars and college staff can check a record on the NTA helpline, 011-40759000. Call hours run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The email address is ugcnet@nta.ac.in.
Why the image rule costs more than the Rs 500 late fee
Rs 500 buys three extra days. Nothing buys a second photo. That is the sharper rule of the two.
A student who misses October 28 still has October 31. Blurred photos leave no second date at all.
