NIOS Bridge Course Registration Reopens October 21 for 8 Days

NIOS bridge course registration reopens on October 21, 2026 at bridge.nios.ac.in. The window shuts on October 28. A fee of Rs 25,000 applies, one time and non-refundable.

The notice came on October 19 from the National Institute of Open Schooling. Its file name is bridge-course-notifcation-for-date-extend-0009.pdf. NIOS is the open school run by the Ministry of Education.

Registering is not the same as being enrolled. On January 8, 2026, 53,924 of 67,618 applications were still waiting on state verification.

This is the sixth window since November 24, 2025. Eight days makes it the shortest of the six.

Who can apply for NIOS bridge course registration?

In-service primary teachers appointed on a B.Ed between June 28, 2018 and August 11, 2023 can apply. Your date of appointment is the test.

Teachers appointed outside those dates need a court order. The NIOS portal calls that route Court Order Registration.

One line on the NIOS admission page is easy to miss. The certificate does not make a B.Ed holder eligible for a future primary teacher post.

It protects an appointment already made. Nothing more.

Why the June 28, 2018 to August 11, 2023 window matters

The National Council for Teacher Education allowed B.Ed holders to teach Classes 1 to 5 in June 2018. NCTE is the body that sets teacher training rules in India.

Rajasthan High Court quashed that notification in November 2021. The Supreme Court agreed on August 11, 2023, in Devesh Sharma v. Union of India.

Justices Aniruddha Bose and Sudhanshu Dhulia held that a B.Ed does not prepare a teacher for Classes 1 to 5. In April 2024 the same court asked NCTE to build a bridge course.

What does the bridge course cost?

Rs 25,000, one time and non-refundable. That fee covers registration, admission and the first session exam.

Each online transaction adds Rs 70. So budget Rs 25,070.

A repeat paper costs more. Theory is Rs 600 per subject and practical is Rs 250.

Fee 25,070 ek saath dena padega, ya kist mein?

One payment. The admission page on bridge.nios.ac.in lists Rs 25,000 as a one-time fee. It has no part payment option.

Nothing comes back if a teacher leaves later. The money is not returned.

Why 53,924 applications are still waiting on states

A state nodal officer checks every form, and 53,924 were pending on January 8, 2026. Registrations stood at 67,618 that day.

Payment was done in 93.72% of those forms. Men filed 36,840 of them and women filed 30,332.

Uttar Pradesh holds the longest queue. About 95% of its 34,371 applications sat unverified.

Assam shows a second problem. 558 of its 920 applications were unpaid.

How do you register at bridge.nios.ac.in?

Six steps, in this order:

1. Open bridge.nios.ac.in and enter your date of appointment.
2. Answer the B.Ed question, Yes or No.
3. Read the instructions and select Proceed.
4. Fill the basic details form under Enroll Now.
5. Upload the documents and pay Rs 25,070.
6. Submit, then print the confirmation page.

Five uploads are needed. One is a self-declaration signed by your school principal.

The other four are a passport size photograph, a signature, the B.Ed marksheet and the appointment letter.

What the six-month course asks of a teacher

The NIOS course carries seven papers, 500 marks and 20 credits. Internal work carries 250 marks and the exams carry 250.

School experience is the heavy part. A teacher plans and teaches on 20 days in a primary school.

Attendance below 80% fails that part. Online contact classes run for at least 10 days.

School Experience alone is worth 100 marks. Forty of those come from 40 lessons across four subjects.

A reflective journal, one entry a day, carries 25 marks. An activity record carries 25, and a portfolio 10.

Child Development and Educational Psychology is 100 marks. So is Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment.

Four pedagogy papers carry 50 marks each. They cover Hindi or a regional language, English, Mathematics, and The World Around Us.

Why registering is not the same as keeping your job

Three gates sit between a form and a safe appointment. State checks come first, then the six-month course, then the exam.

The January 2026 figures show where teachers stop. Only 13,694 of 67,618 applications had cleared verification.

Gate three has no date yet. On October 20, 2026, four pages on the NIOS bridge portal read Coming Soon: Exam Schedule, Exam Fee, Result and FAQs.

Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi launched the course on September 16, 2026. A commencement notice followed two days later.

So a teacher who registers on October 21 joins a calendar already running. The course must finish inside the deadline each state sets.

Miss that deadline and the appointment is invalid. That warning sits on the NIOS admission page itself.
